George Dyson, son of physicist Freeman Dyson, published in 2002 Project Orion: True Story of the Atomic Spaceship 1957 - 1965. After the Cold War, military projects were slowly declassified. However between 1990 & 1995 an Internet Window of Invisibility still exists. For immediately intelligence agencies & global information professionals both established commissions & alliances prior to web pages being commonly available. TIDE 2000 Club (Telecommunications, Information and InterDependent Economies) is a perfect example. My choice to use their long forgotten domain is a call to reassess both this transitional period & with the power of hindsight to gather the lost vision of the earlier Project Orion forward into our new world.
Project Orion Space Elevator, like the vision of TIDE 2000, is the story of a global challenge & future decisions. Niels Bohr, the Danish physicist, saw Project Orion as for the United Nations to take a lead on. What is the next phase, if any, for manned space exploration? This website explores the nuclear options. It contains many errors & some contradictions. However a spirit to contribute to development is there. The project currently awaits further funding as a cheap animated film (£10,000 at a guess) to bring this new proposal to life & renew the interest of the public in a possibility of atomic space travel. For the amateur enthusiasts of Project Orion, your comments are welcome & please include part numbers in all contact messages. Corrections will be made where appropriate. Thank you for your patience.
Layout of the website is methodical but here are three shortcuts. For the Orion expert jump to the 9 proposed revisions. For the sceptic, jump to an uncanny economic prediction written before the crash of 2008 & for the fun seeker read the 60 second play.
